Description

This sketch has small traits of Cocytus, showing how he started out, leading to his current placement. So let us start.

Gaias Eden (Oberon): Before Cocytus was Cocytus, he was an Archion, a celestial species born from an unknown force, that crafted their universe. Cocytus' old name was Oberon: King of the West, Raiser of the Morning Sun, Lord of Wind, and Creator of the Faeries. Oberon had a stern belief that order could only be maintained through cooperation and obedience, but his fellow Archion believed that they could maintain order and still give their creation free will. Oberon disagreed and insisted that the created being remain under the power of the Archion, but they refused. Outraged, Oberon abandoned his post and sought to overtake the prime world they made, called Gaias Eden. He used his faeries, as well as new creation, like demons and goblins and orcs, and creatures without souls, called the undead, to bring submission, slowly but surely, to the people of Gaias Eden. However, he was found and stopped by his fellow Archion, removing his crown and his power.
In retaliation to this, Oberon created Magic, a power that would allow the people of the world to do amazing things without the blessings of the Archion, but Magic would eat away at them, until their souls were completely under Oberon's power. At the same time, Oberon made Two new forces: Styx and Scratch (Truly known and Chaos and Corruption).

Post Corruption: Do to the creation of Corruption, Oberon's fair form now faded. He could use magic to remake his humanoid form, but his true form was unrepairable, turning from his fine, emerald scales to black,as did his colorful red, yellow, and blue feathers. His bright teal eyes became pale white. Where his crown once was, there was now a mark on his forehead, a diamond pattern shaped star burst, with a tall top point, and four slivers around it, two pointing outward in the top corners, and two curving in, like horns, in the bottom corners. Because of this, he spent most of his time in his humanoid form. After the loss of his power, Oberon fled to the Northern Mountains, where he built a fortress and took the disguise of a necromancer, teaching his ways to many on Gaias Eden, forming a sacrificial cult, where they offered their souls to Oberon, and in return, they would become invincible beings. Oberon was actually devouring their souls, so that he could have personal control over the lifeless corpses, adding them to the ever growing legions of the Undead.
After 10 years of personal connection to this new order he founded, Oberon went silent for 5 years. N one knows what happened doing that time, but whatever happened left him in lament and bitterness, for when he returned, he was an ice cold monster, his fair form was no longer held together. His magic left him, and his true deformities showed in his humanoid state, as well as his true form. He now renamed himself Cocytus: Plague-bringer, Death-holder, Lord of Ruin, Living Famine, Bogeyman. He now dispatched his armies of the undead, the only things that stayed by his side after his loss of power. They went out to purge the world of life, so that all life would be under the power of Cocytus.
However, this campaign lasted for only 80 years, until the Archion could find Cocytus. Cocytus and the head of the Archion, his brother, Deus, fought on the fields of Eden. While they were both very powerful beings, Deus was stronger still, and defeated Cocytus. As punishment for harming the free people of Gaias Eden, Deus was forced to imprison Cocytus in the gap between the Ancient Rift and the Void. There he was chained for 600 decades, until Styx and Scratch managed to break him free, and he spread his darkness once more. This lasted for only one decade, where he was struck down by a proficied hero, and cast back into the Gap.

Guardian of Life: In the Gap, Cocytus found an opening into a new universe, and he escaped the Gap. In this universe, he found it is despair. After some time, searching through the new world, he was met by a being called Mana. She had noticed that Cocytus was against this pain he saw, and she pleaded that he would help her end the pain, cause by the being known as Void. Cocytus agreed, and he became one of the Guardians of Life. He remained Quetzalcoatl, but now, he was completely white. He made bonds in his time among the Guardians, the strongest being between an all of the Guardians, Ga'loris, the blue phoenix, and the Holybird, whom he persuaded to join them in their fight against Void. Eventually, Void was defeated, and his core, the source of all sentience, was shattered and split between all the Guardians. Cocytus gained trust, and became a beacon of the fragment.
This was short lived though, for Cocytus still had a strong opinion on order, and the people of the universe were still allowed free will, which Cocytus was against. In this small moment of weakness, Cocytus was persuaded by a demon, possessing a phoenix, called Boggnawr, that the Guardians of Life were not the right path. One more, Cocytus fell, repeating his mistakes, but now with the influence of another.
Boggnawr promised that order would be maintained if they worked together, but Cocytus soon found out the truth of Boggnawr's "order". Like Cocytus back in his realm, Boggnawr was a tyrant, but where Cocytus only wished to remove their free will, Boggnawr ensured obedience through pain and suffering. The only comfort Cocytus ever received in Boggnawr's presence was the friendship he still had with Boggnawr's wife, Ga'loris. They were both against what Boggnawr was doing, and one day, Cocytus stood up to the Devil Bird. He called him a monster and said that he had no wish to continue helping with Boggnawr's sadistic tyranny. Boggnawr retaliated with brute force, and the two were locked in mortal combat. Boggnawr proved to be Cocytus' better, being of an ethereal force like himself, and matching the strength of his Cocytus' brother, Deus. Boggnawr went for the final strike, which would have cast Cocytus out if their existence and back into the Gap, but the attack was blocked at the last minute, by Ga'loris. She did not survive the blow. Before her death, she wished Cocytus safety, and prayed he would find some happiness. With this, Cocytus left the partnership of Boggnawr, who no longer objected, felling under the gloom of the death of his mate.

Neutral: After what happened with Ga'loris, Cocytus fell into deep despair, and he gave up on the Guardians and on Mana and Boggnawr. He fled to the planet of Earth, where he made a home in the central section of the Western continent. There he met a tribe of humans, whom he managed to befriend. He called himself after the name of what he referred to his form as, Quetzalcoatl, which he told them meant "Feathered Serpent". over the time he knew them, he spun wondrous tails of celestial beings and even made up a story of how the world was made, which later became the Aztec religion.
The worshiped Quetzalcoatl and built a temple in his honor. He lived there, where he honored the designated priests wit his title of Quetzalcoatl. He managed, unintentionally, to birth his ancient cult tradition of sacrifice to these people, which they found an honor as did the old order on Gaias Eden.
Cocytus found these beings, these humans, dim witted and barbaric, especially the Aztecs, who raided other tribes to sacrifice to their gods, which were fabricated by Cocytus, based off of his grudged anger for the Archion and the Guardians and Boggnawr. These humans reminded him so much, in appearance, of the people of Gaias Eden, his home realm, and he began to loath the Earthlings.
Loathing turned to hatred after the Spanish came in and destroyed the Aztecs. He saw this as the ultimate testament of human nature. He despised them so, that he assisted in their destruction, through plague and famine and assisting in the wars. After multiple failed attempts, he stopped trying to kill them off, seeing their strengths, and just let them live, but every chance he got, he ensured their lives were miserable. As for the Guardians, he remained neutral between them and the Void. He has remained like this ever since.

Anyway, this is what I have come up with... I spent a lot of time thinking about this.
